I bought a Nikon b500 to take /out/ pics but I never actually bring it on hikes because it's too bulky. I still use it a lot at drive up locations of course, but for a trail camera I'd say the smallest and cheapest you can find that still takes acceptable photos is going to be best. I take lots of phone pictures and what the camera lacks the scenery makes up for. Pic related from my Samsung s7
