I can't imagine a situation in which long bladed kukri would be safer to use than an axe. Sure a kukri is better for whittling, but then again, who really goes /out/ without a knife. Similarly a kukri would be better in jungle for clearing the path, but then there are things called machete and parang.
Kukri is a fine weapon. If something lighter than an axe is needed, a strong knife suitable for batoning is a better option.
