I don't think anything east of the Mississippi matches the raw grandeur of what you see out west, but I've always been really enamored with the southern half of the appalachians. The balds and highlands you find down there feel very distinct from what you get up here in New England for sure. I think a lot of people assume the entire mountain chain more or less feels the same. The south also has seriously underrated biodiversity too, that map that shows the average # of tree species in forests around the nation comes to mind.
