>>932256This creeped me out. One of the only times I've ever been really spooked innawoods was while camping on the Volcanic Tablelands near the Owens River Gorge. My girlfriend and I planned on camping overnight on BLM land and then investigating some of the petroglyphs out there the next day. It was a windy night in April, back in 2009 I think and there was nobody camping anywhere near where we set up.
We were sitting by the campfire well past sundown when we heard what sounded like footsteps approaching through the reeds by the riverbank. Slow footsteps that sounded like something large and menacing. As the sound got closer it caught our full attention and stopped our conversation. My girlfriend started to get spooked so I pulled out a flashlight to investigate...but found nothing.
We went back to the campfire and tried to put it out of our minds but every so often we would hear a few footsteps very close by and then silence. A feeling of dread came over us and we both started feeling uneasy about the place. We decided not to sleep in a tent and retreated to the car for shelter. When the sun came up we looked around for prints but never found anything.
I've had some close calls with wild animals but nothing has ever given me the creeps like this.
