>>271489>get that most steel framed bikes will be too heavy for cyclocross racing, but I just want to ramble around on trails etc.Yeah, the CC is good for that. Where I live there are a lot of dirt trails in the river valleys connected by pavement and it's great for that kind of riding (also for dirt roads out in the country).
>since I ride a fixed gear as a daily use bike, I think that touring with a singlespeed could work.Depends on the terrain & how much gear. My city bike is a fixie too (70") & it can handle moderate loads on moderate hills, but with a camping load in steep terrain even a triple crank has me wishing for a lower low sometimes.
>One could perhaps run a hub gear with a Nature Boy or such?I don't see why not, but a good one that'll stand up to touring loads might be expensive (I'm not an expert on hub gears, only ever used a Sturmey Archer AW, but I know cheap ones aren't always that strong).
>>271528Poseur hipster douchebaggery aside, riding fixed gear is addictive.
As I sad the Cross Check has both horizontal dropouts and a derailleur hanger, so you could set it up either geared or SS.
