But let me tell you why.
I've had my REI membership for almost 10 years and its basically fucking worthless now since their store is complete and utter trash. I use them the same way I use Walmart, to pay for shit I want to try out and then return it after I use it on my trip. And let the faggot employees seethe and dilate when they have to process my massive return.
It used to be fucking based and gear was actually cheaper than anywhere else you could find, not just in a brick and mortar store but online too. But like 6 or so years ago, almost exactly the same time as when the pic related shirts started getting put on the shelves it started sliding into the shitter. There used to be a lot of technical equipment like crampons, trad climbing anchors, ropes, lots of backpacking backpacks, whisperlite stoves, etc. on the shelves and all the clothes were more technical stuff like hardshells, softshells, good base layers, good gloves, etc. They had lots of qulaity brands like outdoor research, arcteryx, patagonia, smartwool, all that shit. Little by little it has been getting crowded out of the showroom floor onto the edges and the actual good pieces from these brands have been going away for their lifestyle counterparts. Now if there is patagonia its going to be MAYBE 1 or 2 actually useful pieces of capiline or nanopuff and then the rest are graphics tees, the big sorority fleece pullovers, and snapbacks. There's hardly ANY fucking outdoor research in there now. Basically the last holdout for decent gear is arcteryx, but their quality is apparently trash now and the price is off limits except to rich hipsters.
