I get one day off a week, usually Friday. I got up last Friday at 4 AM, threw my 12 foot sit-in kayak on top of my Honda Accord, and drove an hour out to Caesar Creek in Southwest Ohio. It's supposed to be some of the best fishing my region has to offer. It was my first time ever going there.
Gorgeous lake, and I was one of the first people out there as the sun was just coming up. I was hoping to catch some largemouth so I paddled to a bank with a deep dropoff that was full of brush piles and fallen trees. I worked the banks for hours throwing soft plastic worms of different colors. Then I tried a jig with a craw, a top water Jitterbug, a rattling crankbait, and a deep diving crank. Not even a bite after working the banks for hours.
I was trying to follow the bass boaters from a distance and see if they were having any luck. I didn't see anyone else catching a thing either. Figured I'd toss out my ultra light setup with a small jighead and plastic grub and try for crappie (they're really active in Ohio this time of year). No luck there either, and I somehow managed to break off the tip of my cheap ass $25 Walmart rod/reel combo.
Spent 7 hours on the lake and didn't have a single bite, I was pretty disappointed. I can't figure out whether I was doing something wrong, I was just fishing the wrong spots, or the fish just weren't biting that day. I'll be going back again this Friday and paddling the opposite side of the lake.
Pic related, it's my kayak.
