For the amount of time, expense and effort one would have to put into modifying a van or RV to *safely and reliably* keep you safe, secure and warm during the winter weather you could afford to arrange for regular housing.
To say it again, any reputable company worth working for in the ND oilfields will provide housing or help compensate for housing costs. period. If you cant get on with a company like that, they are not worth working for and definitely not worth risking your life for.
