Would I swim in my clothes? For a woman- you bet. I'd go in boots and all.
What's the risk? Swimming in clothes is hard, you could drown if you or your woman can't swim, or you get snagged on something under the water.
How likely is that to happen? Unless you go swimming somewhere stupid I'm going to say not very.

biggest risk is that someone panics and tries to climb on anyone who's trying to help them, drowning that person then drowning themselves afterwards.
You can always drag an unconscious person out of the water- but if you're unconscious yourself then both of you are dead.
This technique basically stops the person grabbing your limbs, trying to spin around to face you then climbing on top of you, you're sort of full nelson swimming them backwards.
They don't teach that these days, but it's what I was taught
