Females are smaller and have pouches, which look kind of like a big lumpy hole in their belly. Often one will see a joey pop its head out of the pouch, or if it's too big to live in there anymore it'll just stick its head in to suckle. The joey in the pouch will also distend the lower portion of the kangaroo's abdomen.
