I’d love to stumble across an original Gladstone made Marble’s Ideal (1898) Expert (1906) and Woodcraft (1915) knives.

That's a Marble's Model 1915 Woodcraft and could be worth a couple of (or more) hundred dollars.

I'd suggesting retiring it as a family heirloom considering its possible worth, and getting a modern knife for camping.

Because to him it was just a tool but to future generations, it's a memento of their family history.

Surely you wouldn't suggest the Smithsonian Institution is "fetishizing" stuff, why should a individual family's heirlooms be any different?
