>>2252636There's really not a particular system that you have to use when it gets cold out. Just wear enough layers of warm, non-cotton clothes and you'll stay warm. Also, I like to keep my core just a bit too warm, so that heat is continually circulated to my hands, feet, and face. This makes breathable layers absolutely critical. Which works out fine, because when it gets below 0ºF, it's always very dry outside.
On pic related, it was -10ºF. I wore a T-shirt, a synthetic blend hoodie, and a winter jacket that I found on craigslist. For pants, I wore sweatpants and then some Propper brand cargo pants. For boots, I have some Khombu winter boots - Whatever you choose for boots, just make sure they're lightweight, insulated, and don't squeeze your feet very much. I say light, because picking your feet up to escape deep snow gets real old with heavy boots.
Insulating the neck and head is also important. I wore a balaclava that left my face exposed, and then a boonie hat. Gloves were just some generic winter work gloves from Lowe's.
TLDR, just wear enough breathable, lightweight layers.
