It can be done but it is a horribly tedious process and you absolutely have to know what you're doing. The name brand saws are sorta expensive but you can buy cheap "pruning" saw at most any big box store that will be totally adequate for all but the most extreme situations. I've had the saw pictured for over 5 years and I think I paid only 8 bucks for it. I use that bitch all the freaking time pruning my fruit trees, clearing trails, cutting brush, harvesting bamboo, *and* yes, for camping too. It's still sharp as hell but it IS noticeably duller than when I purchased it. When it finally gets to the point that it's not getting the job done, I'll give it to my son to play with or some such and shell out $10 for a new one.
