I went fishing with my mom this evening. I brought it up to her months ago, and somehow, it came up recently, so I followed through. I've talked to my brother and sister about it several times, but they have no interest. I gave her the choice of two spots. We went to the place she picked, which is pretty weedy and algaey. There is a notice about extremely high levels of coliform bacteria. I went there a couple weeks ago and broke my 8 lb bass leader (fly). I set the hook, and within one second, the fish broke my me off. I was not not putting force on the fish at that point. It just took off. Even though I had that experience, I was going to fish my UL rod with 4 lb mono. We are having bad luck with weeds for a while, and then, we catch some dink bluegill and green sunfish. My mom was having a good time. I knocked my line but didn't care because it was a dink fest. I casted a bit farther out into the weeds, and a little while later, I hook into this thing that I declared to be a catfish (channel). It was wallowing on the bottom. It ended up being a monster bass for this tackle. I'm guessing it was 3 lb when picking it up, which could be a bit extreme. I measured it on my rod and will check how many inches that is. I caught another one that was slightly smaller but fought much better.
