Uses: Potawatomi used inner bark in tea as an expectorant for congestion; also for coughs, diarrhea, diuretic, expectorant, blood purifier. Maple syrup said to be a liver tonic and kidney cleaners, and used in cough syrups. During the maple sap-gathering process in spring, New Englanders once drank the sap collected in buckets as a spring tonic.
