Don't be discouraged by mishaps in the beginning. Harvesting your first crop will make it all worth it, especially with homegrown fruits like tomatoes or strawberries. It took me 3 growing seasons before I managed to properly grow tomatoes of sufficient quality and a high enough quantity to compensate all the work that goes into cultivating them in my rather cold and wet climate. Now I can't imagine buying the watery excuse for tomatoes you find in the store.
