They're found in swamps, creeks. And ditches (provided the ditch holds water year round or is connected to such a body of water). Those 3 foot wide ditches, even nearly stagnant looking, that you pass while driving very likely hold pike, often significant numbers. Beautiful ambush predator. Will hit rooster tails pulled by cover or small jigs bounced over submerged log piles. white, red, and green roostertails seem to work best but the small jigs are better if you can keep from hanging them in the log piles. They almost always attack from behind so whatever you're using, keep that in mind for hook placement. The ones you'll catch are almost always between 6 and 9 inches, of the 42 I've caught, the largest was 10.5 inches. They fight hard and jump like a bass to shake the lure, and will make a run for cover immediately after hitting and throughout the fight.
