Do you have something like pic related in your house? If so, why? If not, why not? If you have other, similar, things in your home, what are they? Let's talk about disaster preparedness. Is that /out/? It is part of the most basic philosophy of the outdoorsman to "be prepared." I don't think this topic fits any other board better than it does here.
I'm not exactly talking about "prepping" here in the sense of how modern preppers talk about zombies, gun-grabbers, and Mad Max types of scenarios. I'm just saying, let's be realistic. Some of us live in areas where a hurricane, tornado, earthquake, blizzard, tsunami, or possibly even an enemy or terrorist missile strike, might temporarily knock out power, interrupt the flow of goods and services, and basically create a situation where you have to rely on your skills as an outdoorsman to stay warm and fed in your own house. Are you prepared for such a situation? If so, how do you think you would survive, or how do you plan to survive, in such a situation in terms of: food, clean water, heat, emergency electricity(?), and other basic needs.
For example, recently, the city of Atlanta was overwhelmed by 2 inches of snow. The roads came to a standstill, resembling something right out of Stephen King's "The Stand." Some commuters didn't make it home until the following day. Other cars were left abandoned on the side of the road. Many Midwest cities have been hit by deep snow and extreme low temperatures this year. If you live in one of the big Midwestern cities, you may be aware that the unprepared sheeple tend to swarm grocery stores in large numbers whenever something like this happens.
