>how big is that plot? Not very large. Those bricks are 3.5 inches wide I think and it is about 25 bricks long on the long sides and around 13-15 bricks long on the other sides.
Pond water should be fine. My only concern is the pots falling off later when the plants are big and can catch the wind. Also, those pots will leave some pretty good stains on the railing after a while. You may want to add a wider board or even a cross board to close in the corner, like this red line. Then use that entire section to set pots on. You wouldn't need to nail it to the railing. Just make some of the board lap over the sides of the railing and tie it down.
