going on long trips id recommend kawasaki versys with dual post tires, or a dr650 if you're going to hit more dirt than asphalt, i go on short one to two day adventures since my bike can't really go too far on the small tank, just make sure you have something to protect you from either rain or cold weather handy, getting caught in a snowfall REALLY sucks.
