A decent soft point and a 1.5-2" broad head will kill in a pretty similar time frame if put through the same spot. The only reduced effectiveness or archery is limited range. You are right that rifle is easier, that is why some people prefer archery. You have to be closer, quieter, and more practiced than a gun hunter. It also gives you another season so more deer. That's why I do both.
I think we can all agree shooting a deer in the face is a risky shot and that archers need to practice more. But rifle hunters should probably shoot more than 5 bullets a year confirming their zero and taking a deer.
