Eastern Pennsylvania:
Pros:
>Four seasons in equal proportion
>Appalachian Trail/Mtns, and most towns have local woods with trails
>Rarely have problems with the law when camping/hiking/kayaking
>Philadelphia has Fairmount Park, which for a city park is unbelievably big. The police don't monitor it and most of it is free of junkies or violence.
>Centralia is interesting, look it up
Cons:
>All terrain is temperate forests on small mountains and hills, nice, but lacking anything interesting or challenging
>Mosquito and nat levels are among the worst in the US in a some areas
>Susquahanna River is our main river, and it's one of the filthiest in N. America. I puke when I look at it.
>Population is relatively dense. Rare to backpack for more than a day without crossing a road, farm or town.
