Redpill me on ornamental peppers please. I went to the garden store and they had a ton of ornamental peppers and I bought some because each plant had more pods on it than I've harvested all season from any one of my standard plants. I tried them though, and they are horrible tasting. I know ornamentals are grown for production and aesthetics over taste, but holy cow, these are nasty. Especially the one on the right. It's tastes like mango skin without the sweetness. A strong astringent turpentine flavor. The other two are at least palatable, but still have a weedy taste. Not sweet at all. They are pretty hot though, so that's nice.
What's the deal? And is there any way to cook with them to lessen or mask their shit taste?
