They had themselves totally setup - bits of furniture, matresses, etc. On the side of the library they were under cover and setup on top of the AC vents which presumably kept them warm during the winter.
Whelp, one day the fire brigade came with the hoses and completely decimated their camp. It was like Birmingham AL in the 60s. When they were done there were dazed homeless people wandering around picking up whatever scraps they could find - hats, socks, scattered silverware. It was the cruelest thing I've seen done to homeless people in the modern era but it tickled me with a thousand keks and still does.
