>>2460254>>2460275Some mines had better access to lumber than others, the mines in central and eastern AZ often had direct wagon trails to about a dozen major sawmills near Flagstaff, Pinetop, the Huachuca and Chiricahua mountains in AZ. Other mines in the inland empire region of CA and in NV and more remote mines on difficult terrain had a much more difficult and expensive time hauling in the necessary lumber, often purchased from those same AZ mills or from CA mills and later OR mills. It was still a massive endeavor to deliver it no matter the source. More impressive I think is how the miners used the wood, and the fact that some of their works still stand after a lifetime in some mines. Ironically one of the AZ saw mills (Nutrioso, AZ sawmill) outlasted just about all of the mines and is still partially running to this day.
Interesting read on some southern AZ mines lumber provisioning.
