/Out/ is one of the worst forums because the actual knowledge base is so tiny compared to the people who post theoretical shit or just LARP, at least outside of the obscure posts like gardening or mushroom foraging, where no one who doesn’t partake in those activities even bothers to post. And the shot posters are just rude and annoying rather than funny or creative, again because they’re children.
Look at hammocks. It’s inevitable that several idiots will say that it’s hard to find trees (in a forest…), often saying they “need to be the right distance apart.” And that you can’t sleep in them on your side. And they take too long to put up And finding a decent hammock spot is harder than a tent spot. Anyone who’s used a hammock on a few overnight trips knows this is just straight up retarded.
It’s why you see people recommending completely in appropriate gear for a given location or activity, and it’s why civil discussion is nearly impossible when a thread goes downhill.
If this was a theory-based forum, like /pol/, it would make sense. No one really knows politics because no one actually works in government, hence it’s called “political theory.” But we don’t operate in theory on /out/. A lot of us really do stuff outdoors.
