To start with, I will be camping in a local forest, to get a feel for how winter camping is like. I have spent many nights in this forest, and know that there is almost no wind there, even in winter, so that shouldn't be a problem. Also I will probably just be 2 or 3 hours from civilization the first few hikes in case I do something wrong.
In addition to the ground mat I now plan to buy, I also actually have a reindeer skin (with hairs), pretty heavy, but comfortable. Hopefully those two together (and maybe some blankets as you guys have said) will keep some warmth in.
I also plan to bring an axe and get loads of... hm, don't know the english word for it, but will post a picture. I usually put a layer of this on the ground in the summer to sleep on, because it makes the ground softer to lay on, but I'm not sure if it has insulation properties or not?
