If you don’t have success after perfecting your technique then your tobacco might be old/too dry (burns hot on the top then runs out of fuel and burns out). Also, what’s the make of your cob? Most pipes smoke good but there’s some sketchy, cheap Chinese stuff on Amazon. If you have one of those that could be a problem. When I started years ago I didn’t know any better and bought some cheapos that delaminated and fell apart after one smoke. Tasted horrible.
