That part of the desert has so much amazing stuff in it. It's just gorgeous. I actually live in Quebec, now. I miss my desert so much! I think I'll take the hike next time I visit--your pictures are rad. There is such wonderful, weird, old crap to explore.
Here's a shot of the old LA aqueduct (the one that actually operates is underground, now), about thirty minutes west, along the base of the Sierra foothills.
