There are many good use cases for an axe, a hatchet is larp.

8" blade with tough steel, not a "super steel", they chip too easily.
But in the end, use case and you area dictates what's best for you.
I don't need to fell big trees, we have no big trees here.
Preparing food, splitting some wood and making some stakes and similar is what I need a blade for when /out/ here.
Only for splitting the wood does a hatchet marginally perform better, everything else is better with the knife.
Picrel is getting pretty close to the ideal knife for me, A8Mod steel, full tang, 8" blade, only thing I'd change is the grind to a convex.
