Tried out my diy soil block press today to start my bean plants. Time consuming but decent results, the seed hole protrusion could have been a lot longer. The soil felt like it would have broken apart if I tried jamming the seeds down further, so I just capped all the slugs with some moist potting soil.
I'm pretty sure watering them normally will just make them dissolve, so I lined the trays with some capillary mats made from an old cotton sheet.
Before mixing in water I should have sifted the potting soil to filter out twigs and rocks. I made a few extra blocks to see if they stay together when they dry out which will let me know if it is feasible to make them ahead of time then let them soak up water when I need them.
