>>2154650You can only surface collect where I am. The badlands erode very quickly- up to a meter a year in some places. A day or two after rainfall is the best time to be out because new stuff is exposed. For teeth, surface collecting is as good or better than digging. For most other things though, digging would produce more quality stuff.
Picrel is a monster tooth I found the other day, but I got to it too late. The weather and the freeze/dry cycle destroys dinosaur fossils super fast once they are on the surface.
