There aren't nearly as many bluegill because of the cichlids. And while the cichlids can be aggressive, they won't hit anything and everything like bluegill, especially if they see you. Sometimes you can get reaction strikes if they are nesting, otherwise most of the time they will just follow lures and check em out so you have to get them at the right time with the right presentation. They are way more fun to catch than bluegill though.
