I would use the bag mainly for 2+ day hikes in the woods and 1-2 day hikes above the treeline aswell as a general traveling bag for roadtrips and shorter international travels.
>Pic related, the kind of terrain I usually hike inRight now, I have a large ALICE pack and a Fjällräven Kajka 75. While the comfort and quality of the Kajka is fantastic, it's a bit limited in terms of attaching stuff to it for easy access.
As for the modulability angle, I think that the appeal for me is mainly that I can have the bag as a project over time and add pouches when I find some limitation to the pack. I guess you could say I want to have a pack I can personalize and fiddle with in the long run.
My price range is around 250 dollars (more if it's a really good pack that fits my needs well)
