He was in Viet-fuckin-Nam during the moon landing, and he was stationed at a communication outpost in Bac Lieu and they were able to pickup the transmissions between the moon and mission control and he patched his tape machine into it and recorded it live as it happened. The recorder's gone but he still has the reel. Breddy cool!
