People always talk about getting some high caliber revolver or slinging slugs at a bear and I always thought them to be stupid. A revolver with 6 shots on a heavy trigger pull large frame or a pump action shotgun where stove piping is common in high stress frantic racking. So I always opted in for my G19 and a 19 round magazine.
Last year I was turkey hunting with my brother when a black bear bum rushed out of the tree line and went on our decoys about 20 yards in front of us. Needless to say we shat our pants and the black bear looked over at our blind. The fucking thing started pawing at the ground snorting and just giving out direction the evil eye. Now we have a shotgun loaded with turkey shot and a compound bow for if the turkeys came in real close, but I also had my G19 on my hip. So I pull that son of a bitch out it's holster and point is straight at the bear as it starts inching towards us. Once I knew the bear wasn't going to back off I mag dumped that nigga with all 19 rounds in the mag and the one in the chamber.
From my brothers perspective the bear started doing the croppy flop on the ground by the 4th shot and considering I had 6 rounds that entered the tum tums and the hind end with a total of 12 rounds on target that seems somewhat accurate.
So my opinion fuck high caliber and get high capacity. Don't risk a malfunction with a shotgun and don't miss your chance with a revolver.
