I've taken it a few miles across the puget sound, although that wasn't too fun. It does great for fishing, lakes, and exploring islands in the sound.
I have a yakima roof rack and kayak mounting kit. Ive gone 80mpg with it on the freeway enough times that I don't even worry about it, though I was scared shitless the first handful of transports.
It's easy enough to get on and off my mid size car.
