Something bit me while I was at Big Bend NP last week. I thought I had shaken out my pants pretty damn well, but apparently not. Something got me when I was pulling them up. Reflexes kicked in and I dropped my pants quick and squished it with my hand too badly to tell what it was before I thought it might be a good idea to know what had bitten me. I'm now thinking it was some kind of spider. This is the bite about 30 minutes after it happened. That chunk of skin pulled off almost instantly after the bite. The other sore, marked "mirror image" on the pic, is a mirror image of the bite on the other side of my knee where the raw spot from the bite touched the back of my thigh. Fucking hurt.
I cleaned it with alcohol hand sanitizer, put benadryl cream on it, used toilet paper and electrical tape to make a bandage that would stay on inside my pants, and hiked another 6 miles with the kids. This was the only thing that marred an otherwise very special trip, so I can't complain too loudly.
