So this year after years of debate I decided to pick up fly fishing. I got a 5 weight rod from white river fly shop and about a 60 flys off of Amazon. Every weekend for the last month I have woken up early to drive an hour east of Nashville to fish the Caney Fork river. I’ve watched hours of YouTube instructions and tried all sorts of methods from nymphing to dry flies but I literally have not caught one fucking fish. I consider myself a decent angler and am pretty good with a normal spinner rod and reel but I am just stumped with fly fishing. I have tried different patterns, gotten “indicators” multi nymph rigs etc all to no avail. I’ve probably spent close to 16 hours out there this month alone just to catch nothing. I have gotten some strikes but haven’t even managed to get a fish on the line, any TN anons have any advice for me? I took pic related where I have been going the last two weekends, have seen other fly fisherman catch fish but not me. I know there is a learning curve to fly fishing but i had hoped to have caught a trout by now.
