But the borderland areas where forest, river, marsh, and beach all come together is IMO one of the best /out/ environments in the world. Marsh mud (perfect for washing) and shellfish are readily available, seawater cleans wounds better than anything, lots of comfy and good-smelling cedar and pine, many activities like fishing and birdwatching. Big problem is that any random water may dehydrate you to an unknown degree.
FYI, the inter-tidal borderlands are some of the most ecologically diverse niches on earth, which is why most of them are designated conservation areas. Coastal camping never seems to get the same exposure as mountain camping for some reason.
