>>1029772We used weedless spoons a ton when we were in Quebec. The action is exactly the same but the hook up ratio is obviously much worse. They replace the treble hook with a fixed single hook that has a fixed piece of wire running the length of the spoon and hovers just above the tip of the hook.
>>1029856I struggled a lot. Genuinely probably took me a few weeks. I was the first one out of all of the fisherman around me that had one and this was long before I started posting here. It got to the point were I would spool on just enough line for a good distance cast and go over to the ponds and sling baits for hours with no intention of catching fish, just casting. I went through so much line with terrible birds nests that I was too frusturated to spend the time getting out. I found that one of the most important aspects is the motion of your cast. You can't just heave it like a spinning reel you have to have a smooth and linear swing with your elbow tucked against your body. Now I can turn all but one brake off with my spool tension at a minimum and chuck frogs/spoons/jerbaits/etc. as far as my rod will let me. It's definitely worth getting into since the benifits are very clear once you learn. When we were in Quebec I was throwing the same spoon as every one else and I would throw perfect casts 95% of the time while everyone else, using spinning gear, would regularly throw it short, or too far and get snagged on rock/branches.
