If you have an approximative idea of where you should be, you can easily use the map to know exactly where you are and where you should go.That's assuming you can see any prominent landmarks, otherwise you have no idea where you are regardless of the map and compass.
If you were plopped down in the middle of the woods and could only see a hundred yards or so thru the trees around you, that map isn't going to help.
