>>1172951The problem with sleeping in general is that you need more insulation than you need walking or standing around. In your coat you will either freeze sleeping or overheat walking. Consider something like a lofted poncho instead.
The big advantage of a coat (besides being easier to make than jacket+extra pants) is that is a bit more flexible, being warmer when standing still or tucking in the tail and cooler when moving around with air exchange around the legs. I truly think a modern insulated coat would be a nice thing and could replace both a jacket and overpants (add gaiters which you need anyway).
