I usually gain around 700m/1km, over 5/10km distance, that's on my day hikes, I usually go to the feet of a small mountain, walk up to the ridge, then walk along the ridge until it's finished and come back, usually the part where I get up to the ridge is off trail, and also when I come back down, so it's difficult to get there due to very steep inclination and vegetation/rocks/vertical walls/mud getting in the way, but it gives a good appreciation of how it is to traverse terrain, so now when I look at a map.i know how it would actually be to move there
