Neat trick for insects, get yourself some essential oil (anything works, ylang ylang has the less opressive smell) and slather yourself in it, the smells pushes critters away. Only thing is it doesn't "hold as well and commercial anti bug cream, ùmax 2 hours, and washes off right away with sweat. But whan setting up camp you can douse it over your floor mat (I use a 5€ poncho, that doubles as back up raingear) and it'll keep bugs away from you and your stuff
