Just created a wishlist for gear that I'd like to get within the next year. Admittedly, I'm probably overspending on the casting rods by about 100$ each minum. And funnily enough the daiwa gear is actually going to be used for catfishing, but I think at their power ratings and functions they will do just fine when targeting flatheads that fight very similar to musky and large pike which is sort of what the 8' xheavies are designed for (that or medium swimbaits fished very deep).
The st croix casting rods are what I'm most hyped to buy. I've always fished spinning/open faced gear with jigs and plastics (still don't think you can beat finesse and sensitivity fishing), but I really need some versatile high-powered, low sensitivity gear for top water and small to medium sized swim baits or buzzbaits. Or even just large/heavy jigs. And the two rods I have picked are sort of a pair in terms of versatility, with their names being the workhorse (7'3") and the warhorse (7'5"). Now baitcasting reels are a grey area for me, and I went with what I see is a very reliable reel, the curado, with the median gear ratio. I know the ratios are more important with baitcasters, but I figured since each rod will play two roles each that the median ratio was best since it'll sacrifice idealism for balanced use.
As for the 7'3" ML, I just need something that'll let me sling 3/8 neds (plastic included in the weight) farther with just a bit extra sensitivity. Plus it'll let me finally rig my other ML up for dropshotting so I can finally start fishing that technique as I've wanted to for a while now.
Just gotta figure which ones to get first!
