1) Boots wear out. Your steel toes may last 10 years but if you didn't wear them as much they would last longer. It's not being a gearfag, it make financial sense to have a 2 pairs which last twice as long as 1 when you factor in comfort.
2) You clearly are either dirt poor or are just spewing garbage. Steel toes have never and will never been as comfortable as equally price hiking boots.
3) Having a steel toe and shank will do absolutely nothing to help you in the woods away from machinery. I could make the argument that you get a better feel in less stiff boots but that is probably negligible, just like the odds on a massive boulder falling on your toe.
4) OP said he wants to spend $50-100. You don't get anywhere near comfortable in a work boot (for uneven ground) at that price range. You would get a decent construction boot which would insanely uncomfortable even walking on a trail.
