>>152477I knew somebody would ask! Well, when we first came upon it it was the beginning to the summer holidays and we were exploring the local area. We came across what looked like a big stormdrain/bunker type thing (we were quite young - 15) that was full of rubbish. We were looking for something to do that summer so we thought it would be a good idea to clean it out, just to see what was down there. We didn't really know what it was until we'd climbed 30ft down and were in a box room covered in what was either mud, or shit.
Now that I think about it, it really didn't smell like sewage while we were down there so maybe it was just a room in which water from a factory (which wasn't too far away) came to join the main streams in the area. I certainly hope that's the case, since one of the pipes starting shooting stuff out at my friend while he was down there and he came up absolutely covered. It was a good summer and back then I didn't know about the toxic risks of entering somewhere like that, so I didn't really have any worries apart from almost killing my friend when a paracord we were using to hoist a bucket full of trash up snapped and almost dropped 20KG down about 15ft onto his head.
The whole must've been filled quite a long time ago, judging by some things we found down there (some old signs etc).
