About 3 years ago I rescued a dog from the OKC shelter. He was found after some nasty storms/tornadoes that ripped through the state. He was a large breed, which is what I wanted. I'm a very active hiker/camper... when I don't have things to do with the wife, I'm down in the Arbuckles or SE OK. I wanted a companion on these trips and he kind stood out.
He is an active lab mix so he loves it. I have a dog backpack for him, he carries his own food and some of my supplies. He follows commands very well and we straight up cuddle when we go out in sub 30 degree weather . In summer when OK get's stupid hot, we rarely even start a fire for the evening and lay away from each other in the tarp.
I trap some small game/fish on occasion... you better believe my dog (Theodore) gets some of the good stuff. Now that drought conditions aren't as bad I've been catching more fish; he loves him some fish bone soup for breakfast.
