I personally like to eat one big meal per day (with a light breakfast) instead of several smaller meals so I tend to focus more on things I can put with my rice/cbh. I live decently far north so it is almost always possible to pack perishables this time of year so I figure on half a stick of butter per day adding an extra 400-500 calories, leaving you approximately 1200 left to fill. Since I eat my filling meal at night I try to put in a small breakfast before I get going and I find a can of salmon to be more than enough. This will give you 600 calories, and bring you to 500 calories or so left to eat. Personally I either ignore these last 500 if my pack is getting full as I'm not likely to starve, but if I have room I will usually try to pack them drinkables. Instant coffee and a protein shake powder puts you up 300 additional calories and makes a wonderful addition to breakfast. The last 200 calories are where the candy bars come in to play.
